Instructor: Mike Davies Why take the beginner woodturning class and then come back another time for the intermediate one when you can take them both at the same time!? In the morning of this all-day class, students will learn the basics of working with a lathe and carbide-tipped turning tools while they make their own wooden pen! After a quick break for lunch (students can either bring their own or we can all chip in on a pizza delivery or something), we'll get into LEVEL 2: Bowl Turning. Students will again select from the available selection of wood species for their bowl and we'll discuss the differences between spindle turning and bowl turning, as well as the difference between carbide tools and traditional high-speed steel gouges and how to sharpen your tools when necessary. After a demonstration by the instructor, the students will get their chance and turn their own piece. Please note: There is no guarantee that students will leave class with two completed projects. The instructor will do his best to get everyone through the process, but wood is an organic material and each piece is its own adventure and sometimes unseen cracks or structural defects that can cause things to go sideways. Additional time on the lathe can be scheduled with the instructor at a future date for any students who graduate from the program whether or not they complete one of their class pieces. Taking both these classes individually would cost $330 (plus tax). But now you can save $50 and take them both in one day for only $270 (plus tax) if you get in while there's still room!
