Learn to transform sterling silver into a custom basket setting for a piece of locally found sea glass. This beginner-level workshop is perfect for locals and visitors looking to create a unique piece of West Coast jewellery while demystifying the basket setting technique. The class focuses on creating a secure, open-back frame that showcases the natural colour and frosted texture of the glass from both sides. During the session, the process involves shaping sterling silver to create a custom fit for a specific piece of sea glass. The workshop introduces the fundamentals of silversmithing, including basic torch soldering, stone setting, and finishing. All materials are provided, including sterling silver and a selection of beach-combed sea glass. If students want to bring their own sea glass, the suitability will be assessed for a beginner-level project to ensure a successful outcome within the timeframe of the class.
