Join us for a playful and creative mixed media class! Using a combination of acrylic paint and torn paper collage, you’ll create a vibrant hummingbird artwork. We’ll begin with a loose, expressive painting process, building a colourful base layer on your canvas to prepare it for collage. From there, you’ll explore the torn paper collage process—selecting from a variety of painted and patterned papers, tearing organic shapes, and layering them to bring your hummingbird to life with detail and texture. We’ll finish with a few final flourishes using paint and paint pens. This class is perfect for beginners (no experience needed!) as well as artists looking to try a new medium. Step-by-step instruction is provided, and creativity and experimentation are encouraged throughout. All materials are provided, and the class includes a 30-minute break—feel free to bring a snack. About your instructor: Cara Leanne is a mixed-media artist from the Comox Valley known for her bright and cheerful paintings. She is drawn to bold, vibrant colour because it feels like joy made visible. She uses hand-painted, hand-torn collage to create whimsical paintings often inspired by gorgeous flowers, peaceful seascapes, or even quirky chickens.
