Service Description

In this introduction to wood turning, students will learn the basics of creating with a lathe and leave with a finished, handmade wooden pen or bottle stopper they made themselves out of their choice of wood species. We will begin with discussing the available wood options and looking at what the finished product of each species will look like. We will then prepare the wooden blanks to be turned into pens and go over the basics of working with the lathe, including the tools required and a safety discussion. The instructor will then do a demonstration on proper turning techniques using carbide-tipped turning tools before students turn and assemble their own pen. If you’ve been thinking about getting into wood turning, this would be a great place to start so you know what to look for when lathe shopping, tools and accessories you might consider purchasing and ask any questions you might have. But this class isn’t just for potential turners! It would also be a great way to try out a super cool process on a super cool tool, have fun for a few hours and end up with a really nice writing implement that will be the envy of everyone who sees it (or make a really great gift for someone special). All supplies included. $165+GST Due to limited space, as well as time and safety constraints, this class is limited to only Three participants per session, so register now to secure your space!
